1. 相信；认为
If you believe that something is true, you think that it is true, but you are not sure.

e.g. Experts believe that the coming drought will be extensive...
专家们认为即将发生的旱灾将侵袭大片地区。
e.g. I believe you have something of mine...
我想你拿了我什么东西。

2. 相信（某人或某人的话）
If you believe someone or if you believe what they say or write, you accept that they are telling the truth.

e.g. He did not sound as if he believed her...
他听起来似乎并不相信她。
e.g. Never believe anything a married man says about his wife...
永远不要相信一个已婚男人说的任何有关他妻子的话。

3. 相信有…；认为…存在
If you believe in fairies, ghosts, or miracles, you are sure that they exist or happen. If you believe in a god, you are sure of the existence of that god.

e.g. I don't believe in ghosts...
我不相信有鬼。
e.g. Do you believe in magic?
你相信魔法真的存在吗？

4. 认为…是应该的（或正确的）
If you believe in a way of life or an idea, you are in favour of it because you think it is good or right.

e.g. He believed in marital fidelity.
他认为婚内应该忠诚。
e.g. ...decent candidates who believed in democracy.

5. 对…有信心；信任；信赖
If you believe in someone or what they are doing, you have confidence in them and think that they will be successful.

e.g. If you believe in yourself you can succeed.

1. 装饰;装点;点缀
If you decorate something, you make it more attractive by adding things to it.

e.g. He decorated his room with pictures of all his favorite sports figures...

e.g. Use shells to decorate boxes, trays, mirrors or even pots.
用贝壳来装点盒子、托盘、镜子甚至是花盆。

2. 粉刷;油漆;裱糊
If you decorate a room or the inside of a building, you put new paint or wallpaper on the walls and ceiling, and paint the woodwork.

e.g. When they came to decorate the rear bedroom, it was Jemma who had the final say...

e.g. The boys are planning to decorate when they get the time...

1. 特别的;非同寻常的
Someone or something that is special is better or more important than other people or things.

e.g. You're very special to me, darling...
亲爱的，你对我来说很重要。
e.g. There are strong arguments for holidays at Easter and Christmas because these are special occasions...
支持复活节和圣诞节放假是有充分论据的，因为这些节日都是特殊的时刻。

2. 特殊的；异常的
Special means different from normal.

e.g. In special cases, a husband can deduct the travel expenses of his wife who accompanies him on a business trip...
在特殊情况下，丈夫可以扣除陪同出差的妻子的旅费。
e.g. So you didn't notice anything special about him?...
这么说你并没有发现他有什么异常之处了？

3. 特派的;有特殊用途的
You use special to describe someone who is officially appointed or who has a particular position specially created for them.

e.g. Due to his wife's illness, he returned to the State Department as special adviser to the President...
由于妻子生病，他回到了国务院，出任总统的特别顾问。
e.g. Frank Deford is a special correspondent for Newsweek magazine.
弗兰克·德福特是《新闻周刊》杂志的特派记者。

4. (为残疾人或有心理障碍者)特设的，专门的
Special institutions are for people who have serious physical or mental problems.

e.g. Police are still searching for a convicted rapist, who escaped from Broadmoor special hospital yesterday.
警方仍然在搜寻昨天从布罗德莫尔专科医院逃跑的一名强奸犯。

5. 特有的;独具特色的
You use special to describe something that relates to one particular person, group, or place.

e.g. Every anxious person will have his or her own special problems or fears.
每一个焦虑的人都会有自己的问题或者担心。
e.g. ...it requires a very special brand of courage to fight dictators.
与独裁者作斗争需要非同寻常的勇气。

6. 特产;特色菜;特别节目
A special is a product, programme, or meal which is not normally available, or which is made for a particular purpose.

e.g. ...complaints about the BBC's Hallowe'en special, 'Ghostwatch'...

e.g. Grocery stores have to offer enough specials to bring people into the store.
