Jenny, and I'm delighted to share my English learning journey with you. Six years ago, I was an English beginner who dreaded seeing English text. Now, I can easily read various English books, articles, and reports. This transformation has had a profound impact on my life and career development. English reading ability is the cornerstone of learning English. When you can understand English text, a whole new world opens up to you. You can access more knowledge, understand different cultures, and even find better job opportunities.

My English learning journey began during my university years. I had to read English textbooks, but I found myself needing a dictionary to understand every sentence. This process was very slow and frustrating. However, I didn't give up and instead developed a systematic learning plan. Through persistent effort, my reading ability gradually improved. Today, I want to share my experiences and methods with you.

When I first started learning English reading, I faced many challenges. My vocabulary was limited, and I would stop whenever I encountered unfamiliar words. Long sentences confused me. I was afraid my reading speed was too slow and worried I would never be able to read English fluently. Learning English reading is like building a house. You need to lay a good foundation first, basic vocabulary, then build the walls brick by brick sentence comprehension and finally complete the entire structure, article comprehension. This requires time and patience, but each step is important.

I made many mistakes. Once, during a company meeting, I misunderstood key data in an English report, causing my proposal to completely miss the point. Everyone laughed, and I felt very embarrassed. But this experience taught me to read more carefully and ensure I understood every important detail. Mistakes aren't failures, they're opportunities to learn.

My turning point came when I joined an English book club. The first book was a simplified version of Harry Potter. Initially, I had to look up many words on each page and read very slowly. But as time went on, I found I could guess the meaning of some words and no longer needed to look up every unfamiliar word. Three months later, when I finished the book, I felt incredibly proud. This success gave me the confidence and motivation to continue learning.

Starting with simple materials is key. Choose graded readers designed specifically for English learners, which adjust vocabulary and grammar for different levels. I began with Oxford Bookworm series at the elementary level. Try this progressive approach. One, first, read through the entire text without stopping to look up every unfamiliar word. Two, read it again, marking frequently occurring unfamiliar words. Three, learn these key vocabulary words. Four, read it a third time, focusing on understanding the overall content.

Repeated reading of the same article is very effective. During your first reading, you might understand only 50%. The second time might reach 70%, and the third time might exceed 90%. I often read the same short article repeatedly, discovering new understanding each time. Consider what methods work best for your own reading practice. Take a moment to think about it.

Integrating English reading into daily life is very important. Set your phone and social media to English. Subscribe to English News News Letters. Stick English word cards in your bathroom. I spend 15 minutes every morning reading articles from BBC Learning English, and this simple habit has helped me accumulate a large vocabulary. Creating an English environment requires initiative. Choose topics you're interested in and find related English materials.

Like cooking, read English recipes, like sports, read English sports news. Interest is the best teacher. I love traveling, so I collect English travel blogs and guides, which makes learning more enjoyable. Writing can greatly enhance reading ability. Try summarizing articles you've read or writing down your thoughts and questions. This helps reinforce what you've learned.

I developed a habit of keeping an English diary, recording what I've read and new vocabulary I've learned each day. This method helps transform passive vocabulary into active vocabulary. Feeling frustrated when facing articles you don't understand is normal. Changing your mindset is important. Don't expect to understand everything at once. Even if you only understand 60%, that's progress.

I learned to enjoy the process of fuzzy understanding, knowing that clarity would increase over time. Building confidence requires small victories. Start with materials where you can understand most of the content, then gradually challenge yourself. I created a reading achievements notebook to record every breakthrough. Today I read a news article without using a dictionary, or I understood a complex business email. These records helped me see my progress.

Setting reasonable expectations is important. Language learning isn't a straight upward line. Sometimes you'll progress quickly, and sometimes you'll feel stagnant. This is completely normal. When I felt I wasn't making progress, I would review my reading achievements notebook to remind myself how far I'd come. Think about it. How would you rate your current English reading level on a scale of one five stars? Assess yourself honestly.

Set specific measurable reading goals. For example, this week I will finish a short story, or this month I will learn 50 new words. My first goal was to read one page of an English book every day, no matter how slowly. This simple goal helped me establish a reading habit. Celebrate your progress. After completing a reading goal, give yourself a small reward. It could be a special cup of coffee, a favorite movie, or just telling yourself well done. These positive reinforcements make the learning process more enjoyable.

Transform difficulties into learning opportunities. When you encounter paragraphs you don't understand, don't skip them. Mark them, analyze them, solve them. I once didn't understand the usage of as well as and always confused its meaning. I specifically collected example sentences containing this phrase and read them repeatedly until I fully mastered it.

Strong English reading ability opens countless doors of opportunity. It helps you acquire knowledge, understand different cultures, and enhance career development. My career has received a tremendous boost because I can read English professional literature. Improving reading ability is like planting a tree. You sow the seeds basic vocabulary, water regularly daily practice, wait patiently except the learning process, and eventually harvest the fruits fluent reading.

This takes time, but the results are absolutely worth it. Imagine being able to easily read English novels, understand professional articles, browse international news without needing translation. Imagine working in an international company, confidently reading and replying to English emails. All of this is possible if you persist in learning.

Remember, learning is a journey, not a race. Some days will be more difficult than others. That's normal. What's important is to keep moving forward. Even if progress seems slow, each day's effort will accumulate into significant results. I believe you can do it. Choose one of the methods I mentioned today and try it for five minutes. Start simple and gradually build your reading ability. I'm cheering for your English learning journey.
