This article explains how to master techniques for describing and comparing different services in English listening, helping learners understand and apply relevant vocabulary and expressions effectively.

Hi again. Ready to start the next lesson? Here we go. In this lesson, we're going to look at how to describe and compare services. By the end of the lesson, you'll be able to describe and compare the features of different services. You'll also be able to use appropriate vocabulary for describing and comparing services. Before we start, I'd like you to think about what kinds of services you use in your life, either at work or at home. Maybe someone delivers water to your office. Does your company have a repair contract for their photocopiers? Maybe you go somewhere to get your hair cut. Do you get cable TV or internet service at home? Have you shipped a package recently? All of these are examples of services. They aren't products, they're services. They are tasks that businesses do for other people. I'd like a few seconds to think about what kinds of services you use. You probably didn't realize how many services you use both at work and at home. Today we're going to look at a service that you might not use every day, a person who helps plan special events. We're going to start by listening to an interview with someone from the Edgewater Hotel, a well-known Seattle hotel that offers services for special events. After, we'll listen to another person describe this service that their company provides. We'll follow with a look at the guidelines and language used to describe this service. You'll have a chance to apply what you learned at the end of this lesson. Before we listen to the interview, I'd like you to know more about the Edgewater Hotel. Pause your screen and read about this lovely spot in Seattle. You may want to go over it twice before taking a short comprehension quiz after.
