If something catches his attention out there, he'll take a quick snapshot of it without dropping his concentration from the rest of the game. These visual search skills are matched by his ability to make fast decisions on how to play the ball. Nine out of ten times, I'll know what I'm going to do before it even comes. You know, I'd looked around the pitch and seen what someone in the ball comes to me and I will have those pictures in my head of what to do. How Mercen uses these mental pictures to make rapid decisions is something scientists can't agree on. Some say it is a conscious task that he performs particularly efficiently. Others believe it is like catching a ball in a plate. Something learned but instinctively performed with minimal brain activity. Either way, Mercen has a valuable skill and the man most likely to benefit from it if he runs forward with the ball is he and right. Instead, a firm even surface for a short, accurate pass. The upper instant, a hard sloping surface for distance and height, useful for finding players in space. The outside of the foot, a curving surface to deliver a glancing blow, often a surprise pass with spin on it. The top of the foot, a flat surface to lift the ball into the air, a precision instrument. His short, touch control and skillful passing make him the creator of goal scoring opportunities.
