However, textbook sentences are often too formal and differ significantly from expressions used in daily life. To speak authentic, natural English, exposure to real-world dialogues is necessary. Here, we have selected frequently used English expressions covering social, work, and travel scenarios, helping you move beyond 'textbook English' and learn how native speakers actually communicate. Below is this session's content of Computer English: Computer Software. Consistent practice will make your English closer to real life!
Chapter 3. Computer Software.Dialogue 1. I don't understand how to use this new software. Do you think you look at the user's manual? No, I bought a bootleg version so I don't have the manual. That's why you should only use original software.
Dialogue 2. Have you ever used a computer dating service? No, have you? I posted my information on a couple of different sites. And I started out some nice email conversations with several people.
Dialogue 3. So, why don't you try a computer dating service? First of all, it's true in person. Second, how do you know the person on the other end is telling you the truth? They could just be making things up all the time and you would be getting to know someone who doesn't really think... You are right. I guess computer dating has its bad sides, but it's still a funny way to meet people.
Dialogue 4. My phone bill is way too expensive. Maybe you should get some of those internet telephone systems. That's why you both dial into the internet so you only have to pay for a local phone call, right?

A computer is an inanimate device that has no intelligence of its own and must be supplied with instructions so that it knows what to do and how and when to do it. These instructions are called software. The importance of software cannot be overestimated. You might have what most people consider the best computer, sitting on your desk in front of you. However, without software to feed it, the computer will do nothing more than take up space.
Notes. Participants. Participants. Participants. Participants. Participants. Professional. Professional. Software is made up of a group of related programs, each of which is a group of related instructions that performs very specific processing tasks. Software acquired to perform a general business function is often referred to as a software package. Software packages which are usually created by professional software writers are accompanied by documentation that explains how to use the software. Software can generally be divided into two categories: system software and application software.
System software. Programs designed to allow the computer to manage its own resources are called system software. This software runs the basic operations. It tells the hardware what to do and how and when to do it. However, it does not solve specific problems relating to a business or a profession. For example, system software will not predict what your company's tax bill will be next year, but it will tell the computer where to save the data used during processing. System software will not create the animation strip for your next film, but it will manage how it is output.
Application software. Any instructions that are a collection of related programs designed to be carried out by a computer to satisfy a user's specific needs are application software. A group of programs written to perform payroll processing is one type of application software, as are programs written to maintain personnel records. An inventory system helps you calculate a budget or monitor the incubation temperatures at your poultry farm. Application software can be purchased off the shelf or custom-written by qualified programmers. If, for example, a company's payroll processing requirements are routine, it can simply purchase one or more off-the-shelf payroll software programs. However, if a company has unique payroll requirements, such as handling records for hourly, salaried, and commission employees, off-the-shelf software may not suffice. It may be more cost-effective to have payroll programs custom-written to exact specifications than to modify off-the-shelf programs for tasks they were never intended to handle.
